We make both HDU and wood signs for residences, cabins, cottages , condos and businesses in mountain, lake, forest and desert areas. However, because of extreme temperatures, rain & snow, and high UV radiation, we recommend HDU as the best material for outdoor signs. It will not split, rot, or deteriorate due to temperature changes or moisture penetration, and is impervious to snow and ice. It requires much less maintenance and has a lifetime of 20+ years, compared to wood, which is typically 7 to 10 years, depending on climate and maintenance. HDU is also less expensive than wood and carves better. Its only disadvantages are that it is not as strong as wood, and of course, cannot be stained or finished to look like natural wood.
