This is simple but elegant sign.The substrate is 2 inch HDU with the interior sandblasted to leave borders.The interior is sanded smooth and paited. The cutout letters are made from 1 inch thick HDU and the faces left flat (rather than prismatic, which are much more time-consuming). The borders and letters are gilded with 23.5 carat gold leaf and epoxied to the background after it has been painted. When HDU is gilded, it must first be prime coated and then painted at least two coats of enamel, with light sanding between coats to ensure a smooth surface to gild upon.
