This is a simple-appearing sign but required a lot of work.It is a 6 ft long, 2.5 ft high HDU sign with both a very lightly sandblasted border (in light tan) to provide a sandstone like surface to the HDU, and a heavily sandlasted interior (painted dark brown).The HDU used was 2 inches thick and reinforced in the back with a wood frame that was also used for mounting the sign.Most of the work was in the appliqes; the green Philodendron leaves and the cut-out letters.The leaves were first cut out of 1 inch thick HDU with a CNR Router/carver, and then hand-carved with chisels, knives, gouges, and V-tools. They were epoxied to flat and smooth areas of the background, and also affixed with screws. The white cut-out letters were epoxied on top of the leaves (we left a smooth flat area on the part of the leaf to be covered by the letter)and a couple of screws were added to each leaf to ensure the letters will remain there for decades.
