PRODUCT LINE 9 - MDO (SMOOTH OUTDOOR PLYWOOD) SIGNS

Welcome to our photo gallery showing examples of our MDO (Medium Density Overlay) signs.If you have just entered our website and you want an overview of our company and all our products, please start with our Home page (blue tab upper left).The photos on this page show signs we have built using MDO as the primary sign substrate, rather than wood or HDU. MDO is a water-resistent coated plywood with a smooth surface suitable for painting or adhering vinyl to it. MDO comes in 4x8 ft or 4x10 ft sheets, similar to HDU, but is typically 0.5 to 0.75 in thick, rather than 1.5 to 2 in thick like HDU. It is made of 5 or 7 ply plywood with waterproof glue; it is stronger and heavier than HDU but will eventually absorb water and warp over many years, unlike HDU. However, if properly sealed and painted, an HDU sign. will last 7 to 10 years without serious degradation. MDO is often used as a back panel or internal core panel to a HDU sandwich to add strength and toughness. When used alone as a signboard, MDO provides a smooth flat surface that cannot be sandblasted or engraved but must be painted or vinyl cut out and adhered to it. A clearcoat is usually sprayed over the entire sign to further waterproof it and extend its life. MDO signs are about half the cost of sandblasted HDU signs, and typically last 5 to 10 years, compared to 15 - 30 years for HDU signs and 10-15 years for wood signs.We do not specialize in MDO signs, but do make them as part of a larger project where HDU or Wood signs are also included.
