Questions & Answers
Do I need artwork on my sign? If so, should I select Silhouette Art (2.5D flat top) instead of 3D bas-relief CarvedArt?
This is a basically a matter of style and personal preference; one is not "better" than the other, and they are equally effective in attracting attention. Silhouette Art. or two&a half--dimensional (2.5D) art can be bold, easily recognizeable, and highly stylized (like a logo, a symbol, and decorative designs). CarvedArt, or three-dimensional (3D) bas-relief art, is more realistic, contains more detail, and often (but not always) has more blended colors.. Think of Silhouette Art as a design and CarvedArt as a stylized color image. To appreciate CarvedArt, it should be viewed fairly closely (10-20 ft) by a pedestrian or a stopped car, whereas Silhouette Art can be viewed from further away or from a car and still be effective. We make Silhouette art by sandblasting and CNC routing, sometimes many levels, whereas 3D bas-relief CarvedArt must be made using our computer-controlled 3D routers or by hand-carving. CarvedArt is generally s more expensive, but if "off-the-shelf" software is used, the price difference is small. Custom 3D designs, which require new software or hand-carving, is 10% to 40% more expensive than 2.5D designs.
