Above is a photo of a colorful natural-looking 2.5-D multi-layer Cedar wood wall plaque for the State of California's Fire Incident Management Team. The large "5" and top banner "Carleton Joseph" were carved from separate pieces of Cedar and laminated to the main plaque, which was carved in 2.5-D (a map of the State and flames). We often laminate layers together on our signs and plaques to provide a look of greater dimensionality. The carving technique used for the text is V-carved engraving. The Cedar wood was not stained, but left in its natural colors., the plaque is clear-coated twice. This plaque can also be made of Redwood, maple or mahogany.
