This  Channel Island National Park wayfinding and distance  sign is  made of two 0.075 thick Corten weathering steel plates welded together front-to-back.The front plate  has the text  cut out  with a CNC laser. A solid back plate  is welded to the front plate. This sign is  mounted on a Corten steel post. This photo shows the color of the weathering steel sign and post  after they are  exposed outside to the weather for a few months. Their color turns dark orange-red because of oxidation and  rusting ( the sign's gray color as fabricated is shown in  photo M8590).
